I’m going to tell you the history of Valentine’s Day, the legend of traditional Chinese Valentine’s Day and how people celebrate it. Valentine’s Day began at the time that Claudius II was an Emperor. At that time, Claudius II wanted to have a stronger military base and he thought unmarried men made better soldier than men who were married so he canceled all marriage and engagements in Rome. But Valentine took pity to those were not permitted to marriages’ people. So he advocated performing secret marriage for them. He soon found out and jailed. On February 24,270, he were executed. After his death Valentine was named a Saint. Western people have their Valentine’s Day, me, Chinese people also have my traditional Chinese Valentine’s Day. Its name is “Chi Shi” because it’s on July 7th on the lunar calendar. The legend of it began with a cowherd named Niu Lang saw the seven daughters of Heaven’s Goddess visited to earth. While their bathing in a river, he run with fairly clothes of the youngest daughter’s clothes. The youngest daughter, Zhi Nu, asked Niu Lang to return their clothes otherwise I couldn’t fly back without it. Eventually, they fell in love and married to live happily for many years. But finally, they were separated by the Emperor. Seven daughters were forced to move to the Star Vega and Niu Lang moved to the star Altair. They are allowed to meet only once a year on the day of 7th day of 7th lunar month. There are many things people do on Valentine’s Day such as exchanging red roses, sending chocolate and greeting cards. Some of the cards have “Cupid” which is a picture of a child with two wings, carrying a bow and arrows. It’s also the symbol of the day. What do I need from my learning group to improve my writing? I think when I’m learning in group I get many benefits such as ask and answer the question, share the ideas and give and get the advice. First, when I am learning in group, if someone in the group asks for help like asks about vocabulary or tense form people who know the answer will help them. And I can get more knowledge and also help me to improve my writing. Then, everyone has different thinking so I can gather the ideas then choose the best idea that suit to my topic or the article. That’s why share the ideas can also improve my writing. Finally, in our group we can visit each other’s blog and give them some advice by write a comment or tell them directly. So the author will know the opinions of others. And use them to improve the writing next time. However, learning in group has more brain and more idea so it’s better than learning individual because we can help each other to improve many English skills not just writing, we can also improve reading speaking and listening. |
